It is exciting and thrilling to keep a pet whether a cat, parrot or a dog. But some factors or aspects need to be considered and followed before a person buys one and then keeps it save and well respectively.

1. Managing time and attention
Like humans, pets require attention and care. This means allocating enough time for them so that they don‘t feel left out or irritated. The amount of time which is to be dedicated varies with the age groups of the pets as well. Like for instance, an eight year old cat will require less time than a ten year old dog.
2. Looking for local breeds
If a person happens to adopt a dog, then he should prefer looking for the local breeds first. Dogs like the terriers and Dalmatians are quite loud and require an active lifestyle and area to play outside the house.

It would be better if an individual talks to other pet owners before selecting a particular breed of a dog.
3. Monitoring the Behavior
In recent years it has been that pet profiling is being done to help the potential buyers prior to their purchase of an animal. It means matching the animals with the potential owners and it is carried out by the people of the animal shelters.
It is necessary that a person should see the level of interaction with the animal rather than going for the looks and appearance.

4. Keeping aside a budget
Since a person keeps a budget for various expenses, he needs to keep one for the pet as well. It will be required for the pet’s water, food, living, medical check-ups and any other need respectively. Any kind of negligence cannot be accepted at all. Otherwise the health of a pet can badly get affected too.

5. Preparing for accommodation and future needs If a person decides to keep a tortoise or a parrot, then needs to keep in mind a few things. Firstly, they live long or can even outlive a person. Secondly, they can become larger in one or two years and will need a bigger space with time. Therefore, there living and eating should be monitored and adequate space should be provided when the need arises.

A person, who is living in a condo or a specific type of home on a rental basis, needs to know the guideline for keeping a pet. As it is not necessary that he will be allowed to keep the type or number relative to pets and the pet policy need to be studied and followed at all times indeed.

7. Know about the allergies
If the person decides to keep a pet for a first time, then he needs to check for the allergies. That is the animal needs to be checked up by a veterinary doctor. Or else he needs to go for his own test for allergies and see if he is reactant to them or not.

How to Train your puppy

How to Train your puppy

Fetch this, fetch that… does it make any sense? I could always get my slippers by myself. Do I need to train my puppy and future dog companion to do all these typical tasks? He/she seems to be doing fine without any training and enjoying his /her dog life. No need for any training at all; life is too short anyway to transform it into a robot.

If you are one of the dog owners thinking as above maybe it’s the time to reconsider; dog training does not only involve fetching things and it surely gives both (i.e. owner and puppy) a lot more that shall help both during their course of life. If you also expect your puppy to be self-trained as it grows… well, you know miracles happen but, what are the chances for this happening to your dog?The first step regarding dog training is a decision that has to be taken and followed by the owner. Owners should understand that dog training can be of their advantage at least for the following reasons:

[/column][/row]

Barking issue: It’s a universal issue for dog owners and mostly for their ‘lovely’ neighbors who, well, did not chose to own a noisy little fella. Barking and, mostly, excessive barking at times not appropriate at all and to other people is a behavior that can’t be tolerated and has to be addressed properly.
Jumping on all people: I believe that you do not want your precious one to jump on everyone he/she sees. No matter how cute they are when at puppy age and light weighted, you probably don’t want this bad habit to exist when your puppy becomes a grown up dog (imagine your little Dalmatian growing big and jumping on auntie Cruella… would she be right then?)
Mental stimulation: Even simple commands such as ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’ etc. help your puppy develop its mind together with its body. As the Roman poet Juvenal says: “mens sana in corpore sano” (a healthy mind goes with a healthy body). You do want your companion to be healthy don’t you? If yes, proper stimulation has to take place; this can be done only through training.

For the above named, all of you dog owners should consider giving your dogs at puppy age a proper training. An experienced professional could always handle the case but, if you can’t afford one, you should dedicate a little of your time to perform this task. You don’t need to train the little one to jump through flaming circles; you just need to train it to behave correctly, to being nice and sociable.

There is a series of training methods. From the traditional and not advisable anymore ‘jerk & push’ one to the contemporaneous and more gentle ones like ‘clicker’ training and ‘reward’ training. It’s up to you to choose the most suitable one that shall be easy going for both yourself and your puppy. When you see the first effects of training (i.e. when the young fella sits when you tell him/her to), you shall understand how important it is for both; in a while you’ll see no jumping on visitors, no dashing through the door etc.
